EDITING PRICING
Professional Editing for Fiction, Nonfiction, and Poetry
Every manuscript deserves thoughtful editorial attention. Whether you’re preparing to query agents, self-publish, or strengthen your work before sharing it with readers, we’ll help you create the strongest version of your book while preserving your voice.
What You’ll Receive
Every edit is tailored to your manuscript and may include:
- Developmental editing
- Line editing
- Copyediting
- Grammar, punctuation, and consistency corrections
- Editing according to The Chicago Manual of Style (CMOS)
- Margin comments and revision suggestions
- An editorial summary at the end of each editing batch
- Follow-up support after delivery
Rather than charging separately for developmental editing, line editing, and copyediting, we provide the level of editorial attention your manuscript actually needs. We edit holistically, looking at the manuscript through the eyes of a reader. If we see something that can strengthen your book, we’ll address it, regardless of which category it traditionally falls under.
Editing Services & Pricing
Most editing projects are $0.03 per word.
This single rate includes the developmental, line, and copyediting attention your manuscript requires. We don’t charge separate fees for different levels of editing. We base our rates on the Editorial Freelancers Association (EFA) pricing guidelines, of which we are longtime members.
Standalone proofreading is also available for manuscripts that have already been professionally edited. Proofreading is $0.015 per word.
For manuscripts over 20,000 words, payments may be divided into milestones that correspond with each editing batch.
Editorial assessments, book coaching, publishing services, and marketing services are quoted separately.
Need a quick estimate? Email us your manuscript’s approximate word count, genre, and where you are in the writing process, and we’ll be happy to provide a no-obligation quote.
Current Words Publishing accepts payments via PayPal, Venmo, and Zelle.
Editorial Assessment
Not sure whether your manuscript is ready for a full edit?
Our editorial assessment includes a review of approximately the first 10,000 words of your manuscript and an editorial note summarizing our observations and recommendations.
It’s a practical first step for authors who want professional feedback before committing to a full edit.
How It Works
- Tell us about your manuscript. We’ll discuss your goals, answer your questions, and determine whether we’re a good fit.
- If appropriate, we’ll complete a sample edit so you can see exactly how we work before making a commitment.
- You’ll receive a written quote, an editing contract, and an estimated timeline. We intentionally limit the number of projects we accept so we can give every manuscript the attention it deserves and deliver your edits on schedule.
- Longer manuscripts are edited in manageable batches, giving you time to review revisions and ask questions as we move through your manuscript together.
- Revision assistance is always available. If you’d like to talk through feedback, brainstorm solutions, or simply discuss your manuscript, we’re happy to schedule a Zoom conversation.
- Our relationship doesn’t end when your edit is complete. You’ll continue to have access to our Author Library, a complimentary query letter review (when appropriate), invitations to our monthly author marketing meetings, and ongoing support whenever questions arise.
